Don't Read the Fence!

What a character!  Sister Leavitt keeps things interesting, that's for sure!  Have a great week.

Good Morning, well evening here, but morning there. So I just have to tell you all about the fantastic week we had here in Red amy/ V-grad/ Russia. Last Tuesday was one of the funnest days ever on my mission. One of our members had a referral for us, so we met him at the bus stop and then all walked over together. It turned out to be this such cool lady who is a psycic. She turned out not to be too interested in what we had to say, but it was so interesting to meet her. She can tell you what kind of illnesses or problems you have with your health and then she recommends treatment... it's a little weird, but so many people come to see her. She said that in the summer she is so busy that she has to have one of her granddaughters help her. She has two granddaughters, one can "see" and the other can't. We didn't ask her to tell us what was wrong with us because... well sometimes it's better not to know and live happily than be worried about it all the time, and plus then we would have had to pay. But that experience was also really cool because our member rocked at sharing his knowledge of the gospel. While we were walking over there he just kept telling us how nervous he was and he asked us if we were nervous, and we told him that we do this everyday to stangers and so it just seemed normal to us, maybe even a little better since he was with us, anyways we assured him that we could teach her and he could just share his testimony, but when we got in there, he just went for it, and he rocked. So it was just really cool to see the spirit work through him and bless him because of his desires to share his knowledge of the gospel with others. Anyways, so when that was done we walked outside and he said, "okay, how about we call Valentina?" She is one of our eternal investigators here who happened to live really close to this psycic lady. So he called her. At first she said, no, that she was too busy, but then he some how talked her into letting us come over. I told him he was hired as our personal secretary to set up our appointments because I just am not very good at talking people into meeting with us if they say no at first. Anyways, so we went over there and she taught us how to make a new russian dish, that is kind of just like pancakes, but different, then we got to teach her, and the spirit was so strong. I loved that morning so much and I am so just grateful for our faithful members in this area who are so willing to help us with the work.

So this week was also zone conference. That is always such an uplifting and encouraging day. So on Friday night we spent the night with the Neilson's (the senior couple serving in center) so that we didn't have to travel an extra hour in the morning. Anyways, while we were there some of the elders had to come over to get something and we were all just talking for a minute and Elder Neilson was telling us about how he always reads the signs and stuff on the public transportation to see how much he understands, and one of the elders, who is from Ukraine, says, "that it good, but don't read the fence." It was so funny because there is kind of a lot of graffiti here on the fences and most of the times it is swearing and what not, and so his advise to him was to not learn the words on the fences. And that is my advise to you also, don't read the fence, and stick to better things, like the Book of Mormon, or the conference addition of the Ensign... Those would be much better than the fence.

On Saturday after Zone Conference our District (as in our member district, not just missionaries) had a Christmas party to celebrate Russian Christmas, it was so fun and we all got to share our talents, some people danced, some did magic, another lady played the piano. It was a great evening.

Well, I think that that's all the exciting news for this week. I am so happy and I love Russia and all of the members of the Church here. They truly teach me what it means to be a member of the church. I am so lucky to get to serve them and bless them while I am here. Well I hope that you all have a great week.

Love,

Sister Leavitt
